Adventure at 3 Rivers

Posted by Pam and Matt Foster on

If you’ve had a chance to read my other posts, you probably guessed that we love to travel - and by travel we mean specifically mountains, trails, running, hiking, biking, fishing and pretty much anything else the outdoors has to offer.  We usually take an extended vacation, 8-10 weeks every year, and usually in the late summer or early fall.

This year, however, we were given the opportunity to take 7 weeks in the Spring time…and immediately we jumped on this.  Having traveled so much of the Continent in the later part of the year, we are very eager to experience some of those very places that touch our souls, but in a different season.  We also are excited to find new places that we have yet been unable to explore.

We do have a couple of places that we always return to…regardless of the remainder of our trip.  One of those two places is right here, where I am sitting river-side and writing this blog post.  The area is in Idaho, off Highway 12, at the Confluence of the Clearwater, the Selway and the Lochsa Rivers, where the beginning of Amazing Adventures starts!  I am a Salmon River girl...raised on the river and the surrounding area, but did not start exploring this area until a few years ago.  We have fished some beautiful waters here, hiked almost perfect trails up into the Frank Church Wilderness, and spent some of the most relaxing nights riverside in our favorite boondocking site about 19 miles off the main road.   Every year, we visit here and end up staying “just one more day” because it’s been so perfect every time.

This has been a completely different experience for us here…the spring melt has started, and the river runs higher than we’ve ever seen.  The Lochsa was full of kayaks and rafts, and some amazing rapids were seen along the way.  Once on the Selway, we were so excited to see our beloved Selway Falls, having only seen them in August and September.  There are no words for this Spring season…just watch the video.  Sometimes I’m overwhelmed by the power of nature when we see something like this.

We decided to take 2 Zero days from traveling and are sitting in the sunshine in 70 degrees F, thinking life can’t get much better than this just now.  I hope you’re able to get some time out there too, start making those plans if you haven’t already.  Every soul deserves time like this!

More pics to come :)

Until the next adventure…
